Why Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a relatively easy state to achieve, we all do it every day without even thinking about it – a state of daydreaming. Hypnosis relaxes the body and mind so we can directly access the subconscious mind, it enables us to facilitate positive changes on a conscious level in a safe, comfortable environment. The brain can continue to review information and respond to meaningful information and engage even whilst in trance, we are able to erase behaviours which are not useful and boost client’s resilience.
Does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works and is scientifically backed up with more and more meta-analysis being carried out every year on its effectiveness. It is a comparatively quick way to make long lasting changes for life. It is scientifically backed up proven to reduce anxiety so clients feel a sense of calm and can make solution focused choices. It is recommended by NICE for IBS.
People often seek out help as a last resort and are so relieved when they realise, they do have the ability to take back control of their lives and alter their patterns of thinking. Angela has some clients who come for monthly or bi-monthly top up sessions. For some feedback on Angela’s hypnotherapy sessions please see Client Testimonials.
Is it like stage hypnotherapy?
Definitely not, as you never give up control of your conscious mind or body during hypnosis, you will never become unconscious. Your mind will always be in control and alert, you can sit up at any time.
What does hypnosis feel like?
It is very similar to when you are daydreaming, when you just zone out for a bit doing a task which is very familiar, or you nod off in front of the TV. Like falling asleep, but you don’t lose conscious awareness. You can always hear sounds around you, like clocks ticking, cars passing by, doors opening and closing, but nothing disturbs you. Generally, clients feel incredibly relaxed, peaceful as their breathing slows and all their muscles relax, when clients are in their parasympathetic nervous system it helps the body and mind to calm down.
Can I get stuck in a hypnotic state?
No, that would never happen, trance is a natural state we all do it many times every day without even being aware of it, and we never get stuck in our daydreams. We always talk people out of their hypnotic state and give them time to readjust to their surroundings.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Almost everybody can be hypnotised – it is only the depth of the hypnosis that is variable. The exceptions are children under four years old, alcoholics under the influence of alcohol, hard drug addicts and the truly educationally sub-normal.
I have a really “strong mind”, can you still hypnotise me?
The ability to achieve a hypnotised state is linked to intelligence and creativity: therefore, it is those with a ‘strong mind’ who will be particularly capable of using this amazing facet of their own psyche to help them get whatever they want out of life. People with a strong mind are more easily able to be hypnotised, either by themselves or others – as long as they want to be.
How long is each session?
All sessions last approximately 50 minutes (Stop Smoking/Vaping approximately 90 minutes)
How many sessions will I need?
Each, and every client is different. We can make improvements from the beginning; most clients notice an improvement in their sleep first, all of them notice a difference a change in how they respond to different situations. Generally, we see people 10-12 sessions, but this can vary depending on the client’s circumstances and we always endeavour to agree a plan from the Initial Consultation.
